"Surprise eggs for adults": Tobias Langner as an expert on wine consumption phenomena in the FAZ

Professor Tobias Langner was interviewed on 26 March 2023 in an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAZ) on the subject of wine consumption. The article deals with the many creative and unusual consumer phenomena that have developed around the topic of wine. For example, wines from a supplier in Burgenland, Austria, are only sold against payment using cryptocurrency. In addition to the physical bottle, buyers receive a non-fungible token (NFT) of the wine, i.e. a digital certificate of ownership that can be kept as a memento even after the wine has been enjoyed. A winery on the Moselle, on the other hand, does not pay its shareholders their dividends in euros; instead, the investment in Riesling is profitable. And if a few bottles are not enough for you, you can buy a whole barrel in Spain. Another speciality here is that the cuvée in the barrel is different from all other barrels in the bodega. Customers therefore buy a piece of exclusivity. "Such processes are a bit like surprise eggs for adults," says Tobias Langner, "because I don't know exactly what I'm getting."
