Dr. Julian Felix Kopka and Dr. Lennart Borgmann Awarded the 2026 Science Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation

Dr. Julian Felix Kopka and Dr. Lennart Borgmann have been awarded the 2026 Science Award in the category “Best Doctoral Dissertation.” The award, presented annually by the EHI Foundation and GS1 Germany, is among the most prestigious honors for practice-oriented research in retail and the consumer goods industry. The award ceremony took place at EuroShop in Düsseldorf in front of around 300 representatives from business and industry. The dissertation was evaluated by a high-profile jury composed of leading decision-makers from retail, industry, and the digital economy (including representatives from Kaufland e-commerce, TEDi, Otto, OBI, flaconi, and Alnatura). The award-winning research demonstrates how brands can effectively capture and sustain consumer attention in the smartphone era. With prize money of €10,000, the Science Award is one of the highest-funded dissertation awards in the German-speaking academic community. Further information is available here (in German).
